New Christmas play for all the family comes to Dursley

3C Community Church is bringing an internationally renowned theatre company to Dursley for a special performance of a new Christmas play for all the family.

The Riding Lights Theatre Company will be giving a one-off performance of Nearly the Goat – a modern, comic take on the nativity story – in Rednock School’s new purpose-built drama hall on Sunday December 13.

“It should be a fantastic evening,” said Rev Noel Fellowes, of Cam-based 3C. “Nearly the Goat is suitable for all ages from five-years-old up, and we’ve kept the prices low to make it affordable for the whole family to come.”

Riding Lights is an independent theatre company based in York which tours both nationally and internationally and has produced more than a hundred shows, ranging from new plays to classics and from satirical revues and educational shows to musicals.

Riding Lights has been touring Christmas plays for families and primary schools since 1977.

Nearly the Goat, by the playwright and co-founder of Riding Lights, Nigel Forde, is billed as “a brand new play for the whole family…and other animals”. It features a wolf, a search for a stable while the sat-nav is ‘on the blink’, a whole flock of disasters - well, nearly! - and one relentlessly cheerful goat.

Tickets cost £2.50 for children and concessions, £5.00 for adults, and are available from 3C Community Church on 01453 546775. The show starts at 6pm and lasts for one hour.

“At 3C we are always looking at ways of getting involved with the local community,” said Mr Fellowes; “Riding Lights have a well-deserved reputation for great productions, so this will be a thoroughly enjoyable Christmas treat for local families.”

3C Community Church was formed in 2008 when two local churches – Cam Congregational Church and Cotswold Community Church – came together. Last Christmas, 3C’s Christmas presentation was the successful Springs Dance Company’s production, Journey of the Magi.
