Church holds fancy dress Smile Mile to support Dursley Festival

dursleyfestivallogo3C Community Church came up with a novel way to raise funds for Dursley Festival – by holding a fancy dress Sunday service followed by a Smile Mile walk.

For the third consecutive year, the Cam church is Dursley Festival’s main sponsor and this year it is providing a 45-foot lorry trailer free of charge as the stage for the festival on Dursley Recreation Ground on Saturday 14th July.

But Reverend Noel Fellowes said: “As a church, we wanted to do more to support the festival and, to be honest, we love an opportunity just to have some fun, so we came up with the idea of the fancy dress service and sponsored Smile Mile. All are welcome to join us.”

After the 10.30am service, young and old alike will walk in fancy dress from the church’s building in Upper Church Road down to Dursley Rec and back again. Then they will enjoy a barbecue lunch together. Members of the Dursley Festival committee have been invited to come along.

On the main day of the festival, 3C guitarist and bluegrass enthusiast Vince Woods will be playing a bluegrass set from the main stage in the afternoon.
